Hi,
I am interested in sharing information on the Malmumphy family. My Great-grandparents were John Malumphy and Mary Kirby who came to the Great Barrington,MA area from Cork sometime in the mid 1850-1860's. The reason they left Ireland was because John Malumphy was an Irish Catholic and Mary Kirby was an English Protestant. I have too much information to post without knowing if anyone is interested, so I'll wait until someone contacts me, which I hope will be soon.

Hello Rosemary,
My gr gr Grandafather was John Malumphy, born 1827 d.1898 and lived in Richmond, Ma. He was originally married to a woman named Griffin and hit the States in 1851. As best as I know, they came from Kilworth, Co. Cork. Shortly after their arrival his wife (Griffin) and all their children died of fever (so the story goes). His second marriage was to (what I believe) is our common gr gr grandmother maiden named Kirby. How many children they had I don't know....but I know that had at least one, Maurice Malumphy (my gr grandfather) he married a woman named Ellen Drew and they had nine children. John 1888-1966, Ann 1889-c.1976, Margaret 1891-1980, Mary 1895-1994, Richard 1896-1984, My grandfather William 1898-1971, Simon 1900-1986, Francis 1901-1951, and finally Uncle Fred 1904-1968. Please take note that I'm pulling this up from memory so the dates may be a year off here and there. I was always curious where the south Berkshire County Malumphy's came from. My guess is that Maurice (my gr grndfther) had siblings that were in Barrington. In either case, the whole brood of them are buried in St. Pat's Cemetery, W. Stockbridge. The only exception is my gr Uncle John. He moved to the New Milford, Ct area back in the 30's. His sons were Frank and Maurice, with Danny and Dick still living. Hope this helps. Bill Malumphy, Richmond, MA. P.S. If you need my PH. # or email address, ask my sister Peg to pass it along to you.

Hi Donna, Sorry it took so long to reply, it took me this much time to make time to figure out how the website works.
Regarding Sarah Eliza Mulamphy sorry to say I don't have anything. I'm concentrating on the MALUMPHY family which is almost completely undocumented on the Maolanfaidh webpage - one entry only.
I ran a quick search of the usual websites and found that you had already left messages there. I will keep an eye open for Sarah Eliza and let you know if anything turns up which may well happen because there is so much cross over spellings of the name.
As far as Michigan goes, I haven't found any Malumphy members there but I will keep looking.
Sorry I haven't better news. If you run across anything about the MAlumphy family, please let me know.
By the way, are you going to the Maolanfaidh reunion in Tipperary, IE Oct. 28-30, 2005? If so it would be nice to meet you there.
Regards,
Rosemary M. Palmer 18 Hunter Drive Guilford, CT 06437 (203) 453-1881

Hi Bill,
So good to hear from you. Sorry it took me so long to reply, I didn't realize how the website worked. Yes, John Malumphy and Mary Kirby did have other children, 5-6 sons one of whom was Maurice, and one daughter, Ellen, my Grandmother. I did a lot of research on the Malumphy sons and will be happy to share it with you. Your sister, Peggy, said she thought you had a photo of John Malumphy, I would love to see it. Also I would really like to meet with your Grandfather he would be a link to my G/Grandparents John and Mary. I live in Guilford, CT about 20 miles up I-95 from New Haven, I can come up to visit you or you are very welcome to visit here, bring your bathing suit if the weather's good. I have some family photos, few, that I can share with you.
Please get in touch, my phone is (203) 453-1881.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello all,
My name is Jim Malumphy, son of Dan and grandson of John. I recently took my dad (now 85), and his brother Dick up to Richmond to reminisce. We went to the old homestead where John was born, and to his nearby farm he settled on. We also visited the furnace from the Richmond Iron Works where John worked as a young man. I will share any info that I can....... |

Hi Jim,
Where do you live? I am living outside of Boston - I am in Richmond from time to time - my brother, Bill, lives there - how did you dad like seeing the farm? It really has changed since the time we were kids. The house I grew up in was just a few hundred yards from the farm house, where many of your granddad's siblings lived (Mary, Margaret, Fred and my grandfather, Bill). They were a great bunch of people!

Hi Jim,
Sorry I missed you guys when you came up. I had a chance to talk to your father years ago and remember really enjoying the conversation.
I have great memories as a child of your grandmother Sara coming up to visit the farm. Her and her sister in-laws (Mary and Margaret, Jack's sisters) would chat for hours, catching up, and enjoying each others company.
Our grandfathers, Jack and Bill, where brothers. Gramp, and his wife Ida, had Bill (my father) and my aunt Pat. My siblings are Mike, Doty, Peg, Pam, Steve, Bill(me), Chris, Kim, and Ryan.
Maybe sometime over the summer I'll take a ride down your way and say hello to the CT. clan.
Nice to meet you and say hello to your Pop for me.
Bill Malumphy Richmond, Ma
